    Miniatures pt156 – Halflings

Nasty little hobbitses printed in FDM in 15mm scale. Brite Minis sculpts. They’re more round than my other halflings so they’re closer to hobbits.

    Miniatures pt155 – Elves

I’ve painted more of the Brite Minis I had printed in 15mm scale. This time various Elves. A couple wood elf archers, a couple high elf warriors and several adventurer type elves (sorcerer, mage, mercenary, bard).

The wood elf scheme was close to my previous wood elves I had painted from Demonworld. Went with light greens, and red accessories.

For the High elves I went with a white and red scheme (wanted pink but guess I missed the mixing of paints in proper ratio, so I just went with it).

For the adventurers I focused on vermillion and turquoise with some variations.

Printing was okay bar the sorcerers staff head which was corrupted during printing so I turned it into a flame.

    Miniatures pt152 – Town Guard

I’ve been tampering with print settings a while now, but I don’t want this post to be another 3d printing guide. I’ll just give settings and information and proceed to the miniatures painting stuff. Perhaps I will make a separate 3d printing post later in the future.

I’ve collected several town-guard style sculpts from the Brite Minis catalogue.

Scaled 60% for 15mm. Supportless models. Printed on a Bambu Labs A1 mini with a 0.2mm nozzle. eSun PLA+HS Filament. 0.06mm layer height. High Quality default presets.

For paint scheme I went with a mix of earth tones (browns for leathers, gambesons, wood) and a Green (Permanent Green Light) and Yellow (Azo Yellow Medium) for the uniforms (capes, overcoats, pants, shirts). I free handed a tower in the shield with a Yellow/Green background.

I spent the extra time for details like moustaches, beards and buckles as needed. Overall I really like the end results, and will be proud to field them alongside my Blighthaven Town Guard.

    Miniatures pt151 – Space Orks

With Orktober underway, I could not leave my space Orks unpainted. These are all 3d sculpts from thatwhatgrows patreon back catalogue. Bear in mind that their patreon is no longer active, but they also have some support-less sculpts in their itch.io store, from which I got the space goblins but haven’t gotten around to printing and painting them yet. Also while support-less they’re more oriented to resin printing, as I noticed some overhangs while printing in FDM. Could also have to do with the fact that I scaled them down 60% for 15mm scale.

Anyway enough talk, here are gathered: 1 armored ork boss, 2 ork bosses, an ork shaman, an orc with sword and pistol, and 6 orks with rifles.

Printed in Elegoo PLA Pro, at 0.06mm layer height on a Bambu Labs A1 mini with a 0.2mm nozzle. Painted with layering techniques (which I admit was hard to do on the FDM print) and I also used oil washes. Perhaps the contrast is too stark, and I could have gotten a similar result with less effort, but I like evolving my skills as a miniature painter.

I also changed my desk lamp with one with a led light and magnifying lens to assist with painting, but this had an impact to the photography, and for the particular figures I had to switch to a black background, and try to find the optimal exposure settings.

    Miniatures pt150 – Space Robots pt2

Some more Space Robots by Brite Minis. Two armed with pulse rifles and one industrial steel bending model that may look familiar.

As usual, printed in a Bambu Labs A1 Mini with a 0.2mm nozzle, fed with Elegoo PRO PLA, at a 0.06mm layer height.

    Miniatures pt148 – Xenomorphs

I’m a huge fan of the Alien movies. I recall going on the theatre alone on a Saturday morning to watch the then released Alien 4 (Resurrection).

As I’ve been taking a closer look at my Bug Hunt minis, I realised I wanted something more dynamic, fiercer and bigger than my OOP QRF models. Instead of rolling the dice with the pewter vendor scales, I decided to give it a shot with 3d printing.

I did find some free models that look quite good, but I was scared of scaling them down, and eventually settled on the Wakes Emporium Xeno Warriors X02.

These are meant for 6mm scale, so I scaled them up. Since they’re larger than what I envisioned, I scaled them up by 180%, to get a final result to my liking.

These came presupported for resin but since they’re scaled *up* the supports worked great for FDM too. I also gave them a +0.2mm X-Y compensation to make them even sturdier, and they printed fine. 0.2mm nozzle on a BBL@A1Mini with ELEGOO PLA PRO filament. 0.06mm layer height.

It’s 8 variants which I mirrored in the X axis for 16 variants total.

For painting the first 8, I had prepared with airbrush, but I was bored to take it out again for the next 8, so I used a drybrush. I’m wondering if you can see the difference. The drybrushed ones are darker and the layer lines are more visible.

The paint job is as follows:

    • Dark Gray Primer
    • Zenithal / Slap Chop
    • Airbrush / Drybrush Burnt Umber at belly
    • Airbrush / Drybrush Paynes Gray all over
    • Strong Brown/Black Wash
    • Drybrush Beige Tan
    • Floor Polish Brown Wash

    Here they are all together

    Miniatures pt147 – Ungrafted

My last (I have a few more printed, alas not painted) bugs set is using the Ungrafted by Ill Gotten Games as Tentacle Crawlers.

    Several variants, mirrored for double!

    Simple paint job.

    • Airbrush Pale Flesh all over
    • Purple Wash
    • Drybrush White/Yellow Ochre/Lemon Yellow Brain
    • Drybrush White Tentacles & Teeth
    • Warm Grey base
    • Brown Polish Wash
