Miniatures pt111 – Slayers
Here are six out of 10 of the Blue Moon Slayers from Old Glory. I did a very gradient priming and used transparent paints of just one coat to have a strong highlighting and shadows.

A few more sci-fi miniatures from the Alternative Armies Ion Age range.
Four of spaceport crew that I painted in the same rebel pilot color scheme as my Hammer Slammers , two diplomats, a scientist and a trader, an adventurer and a warrior.

I got some GZG Brethren of New Light miniatures that seem to be a really good fit for Star Wars themed Imperial Troopers.
In expanded universe/legends they’re supposed to have a gray uniform. In Solo, they also have a gray uniform but they’re “mud troopers”. I decided to go with the uniforms as presented in Andor. They’re an olive drab, with charcoal helmets.
To achieve this I used Olive Green Deep, desaturated and glazed with Zinc White. For the helmets, gloves and boots I used Paynes Gray. Guns are Paynes Gray with Graphite metallic on top.

More Star Wars themed miniatures. These are Rebel Troopers using miniatures from GZG Islamic Federation range.
I didn’t do any sculpting this time around, but I did freehand the dark glass shape on the front of the white helmet. I also freehanded the reflection on the visors.
For the colour scheme I went with white helmets (Titanium white followed by Zinc white), Paynes Gray for the blast vests, boots and gun undercoats. Graphite for guns, and did mixtures for the uniforms. I used Dungeon Highlights (light gray) mixed with turquoise for the shirts and Dungeon base (dark gray) mixed with zinc white for the pants.

Continuing on my Star Wars in 15mm, here’s 10 Idirion Legion miniatures from Blue Moon Aliens range, that I’ve converted to look like Mandalorians by cutting the crest of their helmet.

For a miniatures gamer at heroic 15mm without a 3d printer, getting Star Wars themed miniatures is a challenge. There are no official miniatures, and the unofficial ones are either true 15mm or almost 20mm.
As seen here the big dudes are towering over the 18mm mens: https://penpaperanddice.home.blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/0ca35-sw2b005_fotor.jpg
And the true 15mm would fit perfectly with Khurasan, Rebel minis, Critical Mass, Onslaught minis and Laserburn, but not with my HOF, GZG or Ion Age ranges.
Some time ago, I decided to sell away any true 15mm minis I had as I could not support another scale, so close to my core scale of 18mm.
So back to my initial point, what to do? I decided to proxy Star Wars stormtroopers with the Blue Moons Galactica Mercenaries from their Aliens range. I was a tad bit disappointed that they were smaller than the rest of the Blue Moon range, but thankfully bigger than true 15mm. I also decided to attempt to do some greenstuff sculpting to create stormtroopers helmets, as I’d need only to do the visor and mask. I added some height on top by extending the helmet up by a millimetre or so. It’s my first time attempting something so detailed with greenstuff, and so please excuse some helmets that don’t look as good. But some are quite nice, and all will look fine at table distance.
As to the paint job, I did a slap chop priming (the term stuck even if I was using the technique before it was established, so I might as well adopt it) with heavy white overbrush. I then used a 000 brush with black acrylic ink to black line the joints according to the stormtroopers armor. Then I did a pass with Titanium white (opaque) followed by Zinc white (semi transparent), and painted the guns with Paynes Gray and Graphite. Finally I wanted to tie everything together with a wash, but I was scared that it would darken everything too much. So I used a black wash I had DIYed for terrain some time ago. It has a lot of flow aid (dish soap) so it won’t stick to larger surfaces and only go to the nook and crevices.
I’ve talked a lot, here’s the pictures.

Wow, they look very good! For my sci-fi collection, I use all kinds of 15mm-18mm figures – I don’t mind the size difference. It can easily be explained by assuming that the larger guys come from a planet with lower gravity or vice versa 🙂
Thank you! ☺️
Yes, I know, I could easily field them together and it wouldn’t be unrealistic. There’s even some WW2 photos showing real size difference between real humans in a unit, and it’s unreal.
However smaller figures also mean smaller guns etc, and immersion breaks for me there. It took me a while to find out which miniatures ranges are what size, and some manufacturers have different ranges with different sizes (some also have different sizes in the same range!), so I do look the other way sometimes, especially with regards to aliens!

Went back into painting this week, and finished ten of Hammer Slammers infantry from GZG in the paint scheme of Star Wars Rebel pilots.
Vermillion uniforms, Warm grey armor, Paynes grey belts and boots, and graphite metallic weapons.
